Mentorship Session with Q&A - Head and Neck Cancer and the SLP

A live, one-hour mentorship session with Dr. Mario Landera on dysphagia in head and neck cancer. Participants can bring their own cases and questions on evaluation, treatment planning across surgery and radiation, instrumental assessment, and/or laryngectomy care, and discuss how to work effectively within the oncology team.

Learning Objectives:

1. Identify key considerations for clinical and instrumental swallowing evaluations in patients with head and neck cancer.

2.  Evaluate head and neck cancer dysphagia scenarios, accounting for patient-specific factors.

Target Audience: Intermediate level

CE Credit: 0.1 ASHA CEUs can be awarded to ASHA members. No partial CE credit is provided.

 

To earn a certificate, and ASHA CEUs if desired, eligible learners must do the following:

  1. Attend the entire live session.

  2. Complete a brief 5+ sentence self-assessment/reflection.

  3. Complete required items in a learner survey.

Dr. Mario Landera SLPD

Mario A. Landera, SLPD, CCC-SLP, BCS-S is an Associate Professor and Chief of Speech Pathology in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He specializes in the evaluation and treatment of oropharyngeal swallowing disorders, as well as head and neck cancer speech and swallowing restoration. Dr. Landera is proficient in conducting videofluoroscopic swallow studies (modified barium swallow studies), flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing, videostroboscopy, and management of voice prostheses following tracheoesophageal voice restoration after total laryngectomy.
